The American Theological University continues the mission of Christ—to declare that the Kingdom of God is at hand—to teach and to heal those who have been marginalized by society (Matthew 4: 23).
As we look at the marginalized, we see ourselves: once we were alienated, in need of healing (Ephesians 2: 12; Isaiah 53: 5). Together, we enter into the Kingdom of God as little children, vulnerable, weak, and trusting in our Savior. To develop skills and knowledge we need teaching, to heal the broken places in us we need appropriate treatments.
The ultimate source for truth is the Word of God, but wisdom can come from many sources, and be used by the Spirit of God to develop and to heal. ATU provides a strong foundation of basic knowledge in a variety of disciplines that can be used in the helping professions for both education and spiritual, mental, and physical healing with the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Our programs focus primarily on spiritual and behavioral health. However, there is a strong foundation on the life sciences which would prepare one for further study in healthcare.
It should be clear from the above that we approach the problems of the marginalized from a systems view, integrating insights from many disciplines to properly analyze problems and call on a wide array of resources to address those problems. If this is what God is calling you to do, come join us!
